Hi everyone, I'm hoping someone here can help me because I'm really confused and I don't want to make the wrong decision and end up wasting money. I have a 2016 Toyota Camry that has been a very reliable car for me since I bought it new. Yesterday morning I went to start it and the engine cranked really slowly like it was struggling, and then after a few tries it just stopped cranking altogether. Now when I turn the key I just hear a rapid clicking sound and the lights on the dashboard flicker but nothing else happens. A friend told me that the clicking sound usually means the battery doesn't have enough power to engage the starter but it might still be salvageable with a jumpstart. Another friend said that once a battery dies completely like this it's never the same again and I should just replace it instead of trying to jump it. I honestly don't know which one is right. I started looking online for information about jumpstarting and what to do in this situation. The problem is I don't know how old my battery is because I bought this car used and I never thought to ask the previous owner when it was last replaced.
